Lowland gorillas are large, powerful primates native to the dense forests of central Africa. There are two subspecies: the western lowland gorilla, which is more commonly found in zoos, and the eastern lowland gorilla. These gorillas are primarily herbivorous, feeding on fruits, leaves, and stems, but they may occasionally consume insects.
