The anterior, posterior, sphenoidal and mastoidal fontanelles are all closed. The spheno-occipital synchondrosis and the calvarial sutures are open. By removing the calotte of this skull, osteologists can learn the complex anatomy of the endocranium. It is not currently possible to reliably determine sex with child remains.
